A day none will forget,
etched into our hearts and minds,
entered into the books of history
as one of mankind’s tragedies.
So many names were read
at memorials for all to hear.
Each one of them presents a life,
dear to many and all those
who care about survival and eternity
in friendship and fraternity.
Signs and symbols of affection
cannot describe the needless loss
produced by zealots in our midst.
We must guard against the hatred
that creates such travesties.
Celebrate life, my friend, eternal as it is,
because souls do not die,
they simply exist
and accumulate grief and happiness alike,
to carry on again and mercifully
forget for a small amount of time.
