November

First snow lightly laced the leaves with white.
Golden sprigs of maple flutter down the street.
Birds screech warnings in recognition of the season.
Children shriek excitedly in wild abandon-
Looking forward to all winterly delights.
Cats sit on sills and dogs crouch on mats,
Squirrels race along tree branches
And wire - highways in the sky.
Blue Jays perch high and wait and spy for me
To leave peanuts in the old apple tree.
Clouds flitter nervously and scattered
Across the vastness of a blue firmament,
From which all warmness and friendliness disappeared.
Wind drives paper and debris along the sidewalk
And into thinning see-through garden hedges.
Glad to be home I retreat into the cozy space
Behind the living room’s window.
